Support for Faculty
The France Chicago Center provides significant support to University of Chicago faculty members who pursue a range of France-related intellectual and research initiatives, including (but not limited to) conferences and colloquia, visiting faculty from France, cultural and artistic events, and seed-funding for promising collaborative scientific research conducted with a lab in France.
Faculty seeking support from the France Chicago Center for their France-focused initiatives should be aware that guidelines, deadlines, funding limits, and applications procedures will vary depending on the discipline, the scope of the project, and the timing of the request relative to the event and FCC’s budget calendar.

Collège de France
FCC supports faculty members through its Collège de France initiative. The initiative involves the circulation of faculty members, advanced graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers. In particular, the France Chicago Center provides funding for faculty members who wish to invite colleagues from the Collège de France to the University of Chicago for between 6 and 9 days. You can learn more about the broader exchange initiative as well as the Collège de France Visiting Scholar program by clicking the button below.

Grant Funding
FCC supports faculty in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Divinity School, Harris School, and the Crown Family School by funding France-related initiatives they propose. The amount of support FCC can provide—ranging from a few hundred dollars to $7500—varies depending on the scope of the project and the time frame in which it is submitted.
Interdisciplinary Workshop on France and the Francophone World
FCC also supports these faculty members through its regular programming, and the activities of the bi-weekly Interdisciplinary Workshop on France and the Francophone World, in addition to the above-mentioned exchange opportunities with the Collège de France, as well as the funding provided to faculty members’ students who conduct research, internships, or intensive language study in France. See the Collège de France initiative button above as well as our page “Support for Students” to learn more about these programs.
Biological & Physical Sciences
FCC supports University of Chicago faculty members in the Physical and Biological Sciences primarly by providing seed-funding grants to conduct collaborative transatlantic research through the FACCTS program.
FCC also provides support to BSD, PSD, and PME faculty through the Collège de France initiative, which:
- provide funding to invite faculty colleagues from the Collège de France to the University of Chicago for periods of time ranging from 6-9 days. Click the button below or contact Dan Bertsche (ddb1@uchicago.edu, or 2-3662) for more information.
- provides travel grants ($3,700) through the Marguerite Program to help support advanced graduate students in their labs who conduct monthlong research in the lab of a faculty colleague at the Collège de France.
