Internal Funding Opportunities for UChicago Students

While there are numerous external fellowship opportunities open to graduate students who wish to become Research Residents at the Center in Paris (FulbrightChateaubriandSSRC, to name just a few), below is a non-comprehensive list of internal funding opportunities open only to students at the University of Chicago.

François Furet Travel Grant
Amount of Award: $2,000
Number of Awards: At least eight (8) per year
Eligibility: Students in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Professional Schools, or the College who wish to conduct research or pursue intensive language study in France
Deadline: the fourth Monday of April, for travel to France during the summer or during the following academic year. This application cycle, the deadline is April 16, 2018. (Application will go live on January 2, 2018.)

Summer Research Fellowship
Amount of Award: $5,000
Number of Awards: One (1) per year
Eligibility: Students in the Humanities, Social Sciences, or Professional Schools, who who need to spend at least 2 months in France in order to conduct research to advance a PhD dissertation.
Deadline: the fourth Monday of April, for travel to France during the summer or during the following academic year. This application cycle, the deadline is April 16, 2018.

EHESS Exchange Fellowship
Amount of Award: Airfare, Registration Fees, Stipend of up to $7,200 for up to six months
Number of Awards: One per year
Eligibility: Open to PhD candidates in the Division of the Social Sciences whose dissertation projects require study and research in Paris and who would benefit substantially from the resources of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales
Deadline: the fourth Monday of April, for travel to France during the summer or during the following academic year. This application cycle, the deadline is April 16, 2017. (Application will go live on January 2, 2018.)

Sciences Po Exchange Fellowship
Amount of Award: Airfare (up to $1500), a stipend paid in euros equivalent to $12,000 for 2 or 3 academic quarters. and an opportunity to teach a course in English based on PhD research
Number of Awards: One per year
Eligibility: Open to PhD candidates with a research project in an academic discipline represented at the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po)
Deadline: the fourth Monday of April, for travel to France during the summer or during the following academic year. This application cycle, the deadline is April 16, 2018. (Application will go live on January 2, 2018.)

Lurcy Fellowship
Amount of Award: $25,000 for the academic year
Number of Awards: One per year
Eligibility: Applicants must be PhD students who are either citizens or residents of the United States, and whose research would benefit from an academic year in France
Deadline: Mid-September, for fellowship tenure the following academic year.

Collège de France Exchange Fellowship
Amount of Award: $26,000 for the academic year
Number of Awards: One per year
Eligibility: Open to PhD candidates in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Professional Schools who have a research project endorsed by a Collège de France faculty member, and who intend to make use of the intellectual resources of the Collège de France during their stay
Deadline: January 16, 2018, for fellowship tenure the following academic year

Collège de France Science Research Travel Grant
Amount of Award: $6,000 per quarter for one or more quarters
Number of Awards: Up to three per year
Eligibility: Open to PhD candidates in the Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Molecular Engineering who are pursuing a research project in collaboration with a Collège de France faculty member and/or laboratory
Deadline: April 16, 2018, for fellowship tenure during a quarter or quarters of the following academic year
