Proposals in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Professional Schools

The France Chicago Center is currently accepting proposals from University of Chicago faculty and students for France-Related projects through this initiative.

Those submitting proposals for projects taking place during the upcoming academic year (2008-9) year may request up to $5000. They should make their request using the on-line form below on or before January 16, 2008.

Those submitting proposal for projects taking place during the current academic year (2007-08) may request up to $1500, and may do so at any time.

When formulating a proposal, please keep in mind the following:

Proposals must be submitted by a Chicago faculty member or student who accepts responsibility for carrying out the project.
While there is no longer a strict matching policy, those submitting proposals requesting more that $1500 are strongly encouraged to structure their budgets in such a way that FCC funding accounts for no more than two-thirds of the total budget.
Travel Guidelines adopted by the Center should be respected.
The France Chicago Center does not underwrite costs associated with basic research unless that research is carried out in the context of a cooperative agreement between the University of Chicago and a sister institution in France.
The France Chicago Center may support translations that facilitate communication at a given conference. However, it neither underwrites costs associated with the publication of translations, nor does it support the publication of conference acts.

While most of the activities supported by the France Chicago Center are typically held on the Chicago campus, it may also support a limited number of colloquia in the University of Chicago's new Center in Paris. Proposals for Paris Center-based projects will be considered only if travel guidelines are respected; and if the level of requested support does not exceed $1500.
